Mild Rail Tunnel Karlsruhe / allmannwappner
Textual content description supplied by the architects. Like a typical thread winding its means under floor, our new uniform design ties collectively the seven mild rail stations in downtown Karlsruhe relocated underground. The design is discreet, giving a sure efficiency and poetry to the areas and offering a distinction to the visible and auditory overload of the busy pedestrian space overhead.

The cubature of the station inside is essentially decided by the type of the respective civil engineering constructions and the precise city location. This offers every station a definite character and excessive recognition worth, which allude to the outside location.

By training restraint within the formal design of the areas, the design underscores the symbolic character of every station construction. The idea defines two classes of area, every ruled by its personal design ideas. Within the switch zone with stairways and mezzanine flooring, the design leaves the underlying construction uncovered and with out cladding.

The ready space on the platform stage exudes a relaxing, virtually meditative character with its uniform colour scheme and vibrant surfaces. The usage of the identical materials on the ceilings, partitions, and flooring reduces visible noise and locations the give attention to the important components: trains, indicators, and symbols. The lighting design for the brand new mild rail tunnel was developed in collaboration with designer Ingo Maurer.
